The Department is part Of the faculty of computational mathematics and Cybernetics (CMC).
The department of Computer Systems and Automation was established in 1970, at the initiative of the first Dean of the CMC faculty — Academician A.N. Tikhonov. The first head of the Department was L. N. Korolev, who headed the Department until 2016.
The primary direction of research and educational activity of the Department, from the very beginning, is investigation of interaction between software and hardware of computers and computer networks.
Currently, the Department researches and teaches various issues of distributed systems and modern network technologies, including Software-defined Networks (SDN), Network Function Virtualization (NFV), cloud infrastructures for Big Data processing.
In the course of training of bachelors of the faculty of CMC and undergraduates (under the master’s program «Distributed systems and networks»), the Department provides reading of a number of courses and conducting special seminars.
Under the scientific supervision of the Department, there is a laboratory of Computer systems and a laboratory of «Cloud computing management Systems».
